South African born Afro-House Superstar Duo Black Motion, joins forces with Wild Africa and OAS1SONE and over 100 African singer-songwriters in a historic first-ever a world tour series of Music for Wildlife Concerts, to lend their voices in support of wildlife conservation, raise awareness for climate change and plastics pollution, and have their messaging, voices, music and live performances broadcast across several Pan African and global television, radio and streaming platforms.
Black Motion is an Afro-House duo from Soshanguve, Tshwane, South Africa. Robert “Murdah” Mahosana and Thabo “Smol” Mabogwane are signed with Spirit Motion, a record label that they co-own. The 10-year Black Motion journey has resulted in 6 studio albums and over 40 singles over the past decade. In 2017, the Ya Badimo album and as well as their single Imali were both certified platinum by Sony Music Entertainment Africa. The duo was quoted as stating that they not only not make music for the entertainment of their fans but use the art form to fulfill their spiritual calling If you ask them about the message in their music today, they will tell you that, “Music can unify rather than divide people.
In 2016, Black Motion signed a global licensing deal with Sony Music Entertainment Africa which springboarded the distribution of their fourth studio album: “Ya Badimo”, a tribute to their ancestors, and continuation of their storytelling through music. About this new moment in their career, they shared, “With this album and our partnership with Sony Music we want to continue to tell our story through our music and say to every African child that, it is possible to dream, however have a plan of action to achieve that dream.” Ya Badimo was certified gold in just six weeks from its release, and this brought recognition to their unique approach to, “telling their life story through purpose-driven music.”
At the 2019 South African Music Awards, the duo won both Best Dance Album for Moya Wa Taola, and Duo or Group of the Year. At SAMA, Black Motion was recognized for their contribution to African music alongside their fellow modern-day giants including Sho Madjozi and Black Coffee.
Thabo “Smol” Mabogwane claims that he has an ancestral calling which doesn't need him to be a sangoma but instead it channels him to heal broken hearts and souls using his African drums. He says that the calling helps him play his drums in a way that transfers spiritual healing to their audience, "There are people who need to unlock their spiritual gifts and we help them to do that."
From the release of their first tune, “Banani Mavoko” to their latest chart-topping hit featuring Afrotraction, “Everything”, they have been amongst South Africa's most influential performing artists.
